A Force To Be Reckoned With

Gap Year Student, Whitney Casal, Reflects on 2010/2011 Recruitment

If there is one thing that recruiting at Global Visionaries has taught me in the past couple of months, it is that every single person involved in our organization plays a key role in making it successful. It is already clear that everyone at Global Visionaries works hard, but as a Gap Year Student this year, I’ve witnessed this firsthand in the office more than ever before. With recruiting especially, I have seen so much dedication and hard work; from Youth Board to our beloved Guatemalan Coordinators, and everybody in between. I’d just quickly like to start off by saying thank you to everyone who has played any role in September recruiting; none of what we have accomplished could have been done without you!

In the past few weeks, our recruiting team has visited and given presentations to numerous classrooms across 14 Seattle schools and two Shoreline schools. Mario, Aurelio, Andrea, Sandra and Sophie have all played a vital role in leading these presentations. Having alumni and Youth Board students speak at the school presentations has also been helpful and adds a fun element. I’d like to give a quick shout out (and huge thanks) to Marc Pingry and his crew, who put together our first ever recruiting video (What Is A Global Visionary?).  It has been a smashing success! I truly believe that it has helped us significantly in gaining students’ interest in the Global Visionaries Program.

Our goal this year was to receive 1600 info cards from students across the Seattle Schools…and we did it! Global Visionaries had their first ever phone bank event where Youth Board members called those students who are interested in the program. With the number of calls we had to make, it is more evident than ever that Global Visionaries is growing rapidly.

I am so excited to see where Global Visionaries will be going in the next few months. I don’t think it will be an easy task to select students from the huge number that we have interested. But I am so proud of everyone around me who has made this possible! This recruiting year has been focused on pushing the limits and expanding, even out of the Seattle area, and I think it is safe to say that Global Visionaries is a force to be reckoned with.
